Short course

Yoga and Anatomy

with Ruth Gilmore, Paul FoxLondon

This 5 day course is for teachers, trainee teachers and serious students of yoga who want to deepen their knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Learn how asana, pranayama, meditation and relaxation practices tie into the systems of the body. Each day will involve a series of bite size illustrated lectures on the systems of the body, including musculo-skeletal, circulatory, digestive and immune. The lectures, delivered by Dr Ruth Gilmore, will also relate these body systems to the teaching of yoga. Paul Fox will lead a substantial yoga practice during each morning session, a relaxation after lunch and a workshop in the afternoon where some of the anatomy and physiology theory is applied to yoga practice.

Dr Ruth Gilmore was a full-time lecturer at the Queen’s University of Belfast for many years, first in physiology and then in anatomy, until she took early retirement in order to devote more time to yoga. In 1996 she qualified as a yoga teacher with the Yoga Fellowship of Northern Ireland (the governing body of yoga in Northern Ireland), and has since acquired additional training and expertise in the use of yoga for medical conditions and pregnancy. After gaining his BWY Diploma in 1999, Paul trained in Ashtanga Yoga for two years with John and Lucy Scott, learning the art of sensitive adjustment. He is an ongoing student of anatomy and physiology, studying first with David Keil and now under the guidance of Dr Ruth Gilmore. Read Paul Fox's full biography.
