Doug Keller

Doug Keller Portrait

After degrees in philosophy from Georgetown and Fordham Universities in the United States, and teaching philosophy at college level for several years, Doug spent a total of 14 years offering service, practising, training in, and teaching yoga in Siddha meditation ashrams worldwide. Doug was one of the first teachers to be certified as an Anusara teacher by its founder John Friend and taught in the Anusara style for over 7 years while continuing to enquire deeply into all facets of yoga as a healing and spiritual art. Doug has produced three highly-respected books on asana, pranayama and yoga philosophy. His writing and teaching led him to explore aspects of yoga that are not commonly emphasised or included in the methodology or system of Anusara yoga and he therefore relinquished his status as a certified Anusara teacher to explore Yoga as Therapy and, even more so, the spiritual practices and teachings of yoga.

Doug’s teaching is focused on the yoga of ‘Swatantrya,’ the yoga of one’s own inner expansion and awakening, and is rooted in a vast and inclusive perspective of study and practice that honours the insights of the many streams of wisdom that flow into the river of yoga. Doug travels internationally offering workshops and teacher trainings; he teaches upper level classes at his home base just outside Washington D.C where he also co-teaches in a year-long teacher training programme.
