Katrina has been practising yoga for over 20 years and is deeply passionate about this inspiring practice which has had a profoundly transformative effect on her life. Since completing her BWY Teaching Diploma Katrina has continued to explore the philosophy and application of Yoga with a broad range of teachers, including Donna Farhi, Peter Blackaby, Kausthub Desikachar, Sarah Ryan, and her own mentor Gill Lloyd.

It has been with the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation (KHYF), through the teachings of TKV Desikachar, that Katrina feels she has acquired a deeper understanding of yoga philosophy and its practical application as a therapeutic tool. In 2007, having read an article in Yoga and Health magazine by Sarah Ryan on Meditation in the Yoga tradition, Katrina signed up for a meditation module with Sarah and Gill Lloyd. This marked a real turning point in her yoga studies, as the focus of learning turned to the teachings of the Upansishads, Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and most importantly Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Inspired by the depth and clarity with which these teachings were delivered and their timeless relevance to how we lead our lives, Katrina decided to train as a KHYF teacher and now holds an Advanced Teaching Diploma (BWY accredited) in the Krishnamacharya tradition and is registered with the CNHC as a Yoga Therapist.

Whilst studying alongside Fiona Agombar with the KHYF, Katrina attended Fiona’s workshop on teaching people with ME and Chronic Fatigue and has assisted Fiona on her retreats abroad. Using the many valuable tools yoga has to offer, including asana, pranayama, meditation and chanting, she now works with people experiencing a wide variety of chronic health problems.

Alongside her yoga studies Katrina trained for a year at the Pilates Advances Training School (PATS) in Milton Keynes, studying both the classical mat based and large equipment (Reformer) Pilates method. The training broadened her knowledge of anatomy and the way the body moves and was her first introduction to working one to one therapeutically. This led to courses on ‘The Management of Lower Back Pain’ and becoming a consultant for Exercise Referral from GPs and other professional health organisations.

Katrina runs small group classes and one to one sessions, teaching both yoga and Pilates, in London and Cambridge as well as yoga retreats in the UK and abroad. As a yoga therapist, she puts a strong emphasis on creating practices to suit the individual, enabling people to develop physical and emotional strength, flexibility and a deep connection to their inner light. With a sensitive, intelligent approach to movement, breath and personal development, students are guided through a journey of self discovery, taking them towards healing and joy (sukha) and away from their identification with suffering (dukha).
