In her early 30’s Gillian experienced a brain haemorrhage, which required brain surgery. This experience, along with becoming a mother and her inquisitive mind, have led Gillian to use yoga’s immense tool bag therapeutically for a wide range of health issues, both personally and professionally. The health issues she has worked with range from arthritis to anxiety, from panic attacks to PTSD, from cancer to chronic fatigue to carpal tunnel syndrome, from fertility to fibromyalgia, depression to death fear. The list is endless. Gillian has worked with people in their first and last weeks of life, and she very much believes in adapting yoga for the individual so that its therapeutic power may be optimally applied.
As well as Gillian’s Yoga Therapy training, she has completed teacher trainings in Yoga Nidra, Pregnancy and Baby Yoga, Womb Yoga, Dynamic Yoga and has also studied vedic chanting, mindfulness, vipassana, advaita and restorative yoga. Gillian’s serious training began at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram where she studied Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras along with pranayama and meditation and she now considers Uma Dinsmore Tuli, Ben Wolff and Marc Beuvain her most valued inspirations.www.gillianshippey.com
