Course Information

Dr ALV Kumar will explore the purpose and path of meditation from both a modern scientific and an ancient philosophical perspective. This workshop will introduce the concept of pragnya, the distinct faculty of wisdom that is central to the teaching of Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. This system of meditation develops the skill to observe the fluctuations of the subconscious mind at a subtle level leading to harmony and insight. Long-term practice transforms mental habit patterns and brings profound happiness and peace.

The workshop will include meditation practice supported by explanation and theory.

Dr ALV Kumar is rooted in the traditions from which contemporary models of mindfulness arise. He will connect us to the original philosophical and ethical contexts that are fundamental to a good understanding of meditation practice.

This workshop will be of interest to:

  • Yoga practitioners or teachers looking to develop their knowledge of the meditative dimensions of the yoga tradition
  • Practitioners of meditation wishing to deepen their understanding and progress in their practice
  • Beginners who wish to begin their journey in meditation with an awareness of the fundamental principles that underpin successful practice
  • This workshop is also recommended for those attending Dr Kumar’s meditation Teacher Training course, ‘Meditation Teacher Training – Patanjali’s Prana Samyama Technique’ details of which can be found here.

“Yoga is many limbed, and is not to be confused with any form of religion. My aim is to restore the understanding of the relationship of different branches of traditional yoga so as to enable each person to make swift and effective progress.” Dr ALV Kumar

Dr. ALV Kumar will also be guiding a 10-day silent meditation retreat at Ampleforth in Yorkshire July/August. For more details see here.
