SHARING KNOWLEDGE

This 2-day workshop with Doug Keller will look at sacral stability, low back and hip pain and interweave these with practical work on the bandhas, vayus and breath in asana.

Low Back, sacral and hip pain — particularly from problems of weakness and sacral instability — not only arise in everyday life, but are sometimes worsened through yoga practice that overemphasizes flexibility. This is a paradox, since yoga since its inception has been about stability in every sense of the word!

This course will focus on pain problems arising in and around the sacrum, as well as related problems in the hips and low back. We will take a practical approach to stability that weaves in ideas concerning bandhas and the Vayus that can be incorporated into both asana and pranayama (and breath is indeed a vital part of pain management!)

This will include practical toning exercises for the ‘core’ related to the experience of the Vayus as intimately related to bandha. This practical work is related to the concepts contained in ‘The Fascial Web’ by Schultz and Feitis, as well as ideas developed by Orit Sen-Gupta in ‘Vayu’s Gate.’

This 2-day workshop with Doug Keller will look at sacral stability, low back and hip pain and interweave these with practical work on the bandhas, vayus and breath in asana. The training will be a combination of lecture and practice, in the form of ‘news you can use’ that is helpful to both teachers and inquiring practitioners of yoga.

5 Day Intensive
Doug will also be running a 5 day intensive to complement this workshop looking in-depth at the neck and shoulders; focusing on upper body and spinal health, with an additional focus on working with scoliosis at sacral stability: The Therapeutic Wisdom of Yoga: Rewriting the Story of Our Health and Growth from the 03rd to 07th October.

Elective Hours
Please note that this workshop counts towards elective hours on the Yoga Therapy Diploma
