Global Yoga Therapy Day - August 2019
August 14th marks the first Global Yoga Therapy Day – a day where Yoga Therapists are working together worldwide to share that if you can breathe, you can practice yoga! Yogacampus and The Life Centre have joined this effort to raise awareness about the role yoga therapy can play to promote health and wellbeing through the personalised and adapted application of yoga practice and philosophy.
Yogacampus and The Life Centre are local leaders in providing training for yoga teachers to become yoga therapists through the Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Diploma course, and providing accessible low-cost yoga therapy to the London community through the Yoga Therapy Clinic at the Life Centre every Thursday.
How to Get Involved
Lisa Kaley-Isley - Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Diploma Board Member, Senior Teacher at The Life Centre, and UK ambassador of Global Yoga Therapy Day - will offer two free 90-minute yoga therapy sessions on the day (Wednesday 14th August) to someone who could not otherwise afford to have a private yoga therapy session. They will take place at the following timings:
12:30 - 14:00 and 14:15 - 15:45
Lisa will also teach a therapeutic group yoga class from 16:00 – 17:30 at The Life Centre, Islington designed to meet the needs of anyone who thinks they can’t practice yoga, but who wants to feel better and more at ease in their mind and body. The class will be tailored to those in the room, no experience necessary and all welcome (£5 drop in).
Please share with your friends and family who have not yet found the yoga class or therapist that is right for them to access these valuable practices.
Facebook Live: Ambassadors around the world will be speaking live on Facebook to raise awareness of yoga therapy and to share a practice experience. Lisa's session will take place from 12:00 – 12:30 and you can watch the segment on the Global Yoga Therapy Day Facebpook page here.
Additional Learning Resources
In advance of Global Yoga Therapy Day, a wide variety of educational resources have been made available. Anyone can download the free app Yoga for Better Health which is packed full with good information about safe and effective yoga practice. Launched for the day, it will be a valuable on-going resource into the future.
The organiser of the event, YogaMate hosts more information about the event and a searchable link to find yoga therapists near you and around the world providing sessions on the day and throughout the year. Qualified yoga therapists can also create a profile to be listed in the directory here.
In order to learn more about the global community of practitioners, YogaMate have designed an anonymous survey asking about education and practice of yoga teachers and therapists. It takes just a few minutes to complete and will provide valuable information. We encourage you to take a few minutes to contribute your experience here.
