The fundamental purpose of yoga is transformation. Through practicing yogic techniques and understanding the teachings we can change our body, our thoughts, and the entire matrix of our being in order to become whatever we want to be.

In the second book of the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali lists five kleshas, or errors in thought, and teaches us how to withdraw from them in order to neutralise their power in our lives. The primary klesha, and the one from which all others gain power, is avidya, or ignorance, which is a lack of being able to see clearly beyond the chatter and fluctuations of the mind (known as vrtti) to understand who we really are. In this intensive we will gain a deeper understanding of the kleshas and how to work with them to reconfigure our thinking and lessen their hold over us. Often the kleshas are likened to seeds, and our job is to roast the seeds through various practices in order that they don’t sprout and overgrow in the garden of the mind.

Another way of working towards transformation is to understand and experience the yogic teachings that tell us we are more than just our physical body. There are two paradigms for this exploration: the three shariras and the five koshas.

The three shariras – loosely translated as bodies – are the physical, energetic, and causal aspects of your being, whilst the koshas are the five sheaths, or coverings, that exist within you as energetic expressions of spirit (known as atman). An understanding of the ancient teachings of the shariras and koshas can help you to tune into different vibrations of your consciousness and work more deeply on all aspects of your being: from the most physical to the most subtle. In turn, you will find a greater depth of experience, both on and off the mat. These tools will empower you to access a deeper intelligence and inspiration, and to transform and flourish in every aspect of your life.

What our students say

The course is brilliant for reasons like it’s easy to follow the progression and outline from grounding to transcendence, and find the places you want to revisit very easily so one can really integrate and practice the teachings at their own pace in their own way- I guess which is the gift of online learning!
