What will be covered?

Participants will experience a fascinating insight into the Chinese medical model with its profound powers for healing. It is hoped that the learning will be a valuable tool for self knowledge and growth, which in turn can be used to deepen teaching practice. It is an introduction to this complex system of medicine. The teachers will introduce an organ each day that will correspond with the seasonal elements and corresponding organs and emotions.

These will be:

Day 1 KIDNEY – the Water element – (Winter)
Day 2 LIVER – the Wood element – (Spring)
Day 3 HEART – the Fire element – (Summer)
Day 4 SPLEEN – the Earth element – (Summer)
Day 5 LUNG – the Metal element – (Autumn)

With each element there will be a description of the energetics of the organ, detailed teaching of the meridian pathway on the body, what happens to put the organ out of balance, how to correct the energy inbalance, how to support the healing with Qi Gong practices, with acupressure sequences and dietary advice. The final section of each day will be dedicated to a Yin Yoga practice that works with the meridians studied.

We will be taking a look at the energetics of the organs (fear, anger, joy, worry, grief) and some partner work will be used. This is an important part of the course. Participants are expected to maintain confidentiality.

In this clip, Kate Henley, who holds a degree in Acupuncture, explains what students can expect to gain from attending the 5 day (Live Online)Yin Yoga, Meridian Theory and 5 Element Healing training co-taught with Senior Yoga Teacher Norman Blair.

How is the course taught online?

You will be provided with hard copies (via post) of two course manuals and extra handouts prior to the start date of the course.

Lecture Each day includes a 45 minute presentation by Kate Henley to be watched in your own time prior to the live call.

Physical practice and group learning Each day is taught as a live-stream via Zoom. Every day will begin and end with a short Yin practice. The course material will be studied through both group discussions and as smaller ‘breakout groups’ to reflect on particular elements of the course content. This structure is aimed toward making the course accessible for all personalities and learning types.

Self study questionnaire Included in each day’s study material is a questionnaire, which covers revision and consolidation of the course segment studied that day.

Final essay The final assignment is an essay of 800-1000 words long on a chosen topic, submitted to Norman for feedback at course end.

This structure is geared toward: Encouraging interaction; lessening Zoom fatigue and supporting you in achieving your learning objectives through a combination of live experience, recorded lectures and reviews of course material.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course will suit Yoga teachers and all holistic therapists who are curious and open about Traditional Chinese Medicine. It will be taught by two very experienced teachers in their field who have worked together with this material.

The intention of this course is to introduce the participants to the Traditional Chinese Medical model. In doing so it is hoped that attendees will grasp the foundations of the medicine and how it unfolds according to the natural world. Each day will be dedicated to understanding a different element and this will tie in with a Yin practice to support the learning.

By the end you will have a flavour of this work and an appreciation for the depth of the study. We strongly encourage repetition and continued learning. It is hoped that this will support your own health and way of living and that you may begin to incorporate this learning into your teaching.
