Embodied Yoga Principles is a rapidly spreading new approach to deepening the psychological and emotional aspects of asana practice, and using practice to improve your life. This workshop on Asana Psychology is the first Embodied Yoga Principles (EYP) training at Yogacampus.

The programme is a pragmatic way of making asana practice more meaningful and relevant to our core concerns, values and challenges. It’s a deep but Western, non-athletic system, that is both fun and provocative. It includes a set of novel postures to quickly reveal personal patterns, and can also be combined with traditional practice. Embodied Yoga Principles (EYP) is mindfulness-based and incorporates elements of life coaching, body therapy, dance, bodywork, improvisation and martial arts. Sometimes it’s described as “yoga for your life not just your hamstrings”.

This workshop will be particularly useful for yoga teachers and yoga therapists. It is also not your typical yoga workshop – expect to be inspired and gain insights into your own psychological patterns. Please also be aware that EYP is intense deep work at times, and while done in a caring environment, do expect challenge.

Topics covered in this workshop

  • Psychological self-awareness and transfer of skills to daily-life through yoga
  • How asana reveals our habits and personalities
  • What the buzzword of “embodiment” actually means and how we can build it
  • EYP postures (traditional and new)
  • Mindfulness communication to embed learning (there’s chatty bits)
  • ‘Micro-poses’ and ‘walking yoga’ to shift how we feel in any situation
  • How to use partner practice to explore relationships (includes the controversial yoga Olympics!)
  • How to work deeply but safely in a trauma sensitive way

We recommend you check out the Embodied Yoga Principles website to sample Mark’s work which includes some videos of the work: www.embodiedyogaprinciples.com

What you can expect to gain from attending this workshop

  • Greater self-awareness of your habits as a person and as a yoga teacher

  • Top tips for getting yoga “off the mat”, and to help your students with this
  • Techniques to connect postures to emotions, insights and life-challenges
  • New, psychologically impactful poses to incorporate into your classes
  • A whole new perspective and “layer” on your practice and teaching!
  • A non-esoteric “depth” approach to practice
  • New friends. Really, it’s way more social than a regular workshop

Nice things people have said about the EYP programme:

“It brings rigorous self-enquiry into my physical practice. It’s a way of bringing self-study to life in practical and playful ways. EYP is adaptable, you can use it in simple ways to enhance a general yoga class and in a life changing way in longer workshops.” – Amanda Brown, experienced yoga teacher Cornwall, UK”

“Embodied Yoga offers a much needed fresh authentic perspective on yoga. It’s not offering an opportunity to float off into spiritual la-la and distance oneself from life’s suffering, on the contrary it encourages the participant to become fully aware and to take responsibility for what is going on in their body and mind, becoming aware of patterns and shadows in a safe supported environment.” – Jane D, Sussex UK

“Mark has pressed the refresh button on the yoga world to see the practice of yoga through the eyes of embodiment brings a welcome new view .The methods of embodiment link the practice on the yoga mat and brings it firmly out into the world of our relationships, work and all aspects of life…and extends our range of practices as yoga teachers …” – Hatha yoga teacher, Brighton, UK

“Being encouraged to notice how I approached practice, and how I related to others during the class reflected unhelpful patterns and stories that I recognised play out in my in my life outside the studio, and are limiting me. Powerfully insightful.” – Holly, hot yoga practitioner, Brighton, UK
