A NEW DIRECTION FOR YOGACAMPUS
When we paused our 200-hour Diploma, many of you asked: why? what’s next?
For the past 18 months, we’ve been working behind the scenes with senior teachers and long-standing practitioners. We’ve listened to your feedback, held panel discussions, and reflected deeply on how yoga is taught, lived, and shared in today’s world.
What has evolved from this period of discussion and reflection is a strong sense that Yogacampus should play a role in encouraging a change in the dialogue about contemporary yoga education:
Yoga is the residue of the practices, not just the practices themselves.
Being a yoga teacher is about teaching in a way that creates the conditions to allow yoga to happen. We want to engage in a conversation about the ways in which integration of practices creates the “magic” of this state. The focus needs to shift towards how to create the conditions to allow the state of yoga to occur and away from how to teach individual practices.
The “state” of yoga has so many benefits and can be used much more widely in our lives. To become more effective in widening access to, and interest in, yoga practices, teachers need to know how to share simpler integrated Body-Breath-Mind practices, be able to talk about the benefits in a professional and authoritative way, be able to present themselves authentically and with wisdom outside of typical yoga settings.
For over 20 years, Yogacampus has been a home for deep, authentic yoga education — led by Elizabeth Stanley, whose vision shaped one of the UK’s most respected teacher training programmes. In that time, we’ve trained over 1,000 students through our 200-hour Teacher Training Diploma, Yoga Therapy Diploma, and specialist courses and we feel immense gratitude to all of the outstanding teachers who have played a part in this 20 year journey.
As Elizabeth steps back from day to day involvement, we welcome Dr Kristen MacPherson, currently our Head of Training Programmes and Business Manager, as the new Director of Yogacampus. Kristen has a doctorate in Education from the University of Oxford, is an experienced yoga teacher and teacher trainer, and spent nearly a decade as a yoga studio owner. With her expertise as a teacher, educator, and leader, Kristen will honour this legacy while introducing a bold new direction for yoga education.
Now, we’re ready to begin the next chapter — and it starts soon. We've created a new set of trainings focussed on ways of creating the "magic" of the state of yoga that we are excited to share with you.
