Advanced Teacher Training

We have come together with some of the most respected teachers in the field to explore how Yoga can be lived, taught, and shared more widely. Though this 300hr course aims to deepen skills and understanding, the highlight is not just about adding more techniques — it’s about integration and helping teachers take what they already know further.

Yoga as a State of Being: An integrated approach to the advanced study of yoga (300hr)

This course is about creating the conditions that allow the state of yoga to occur.

Yoga is the residue of the practices, not just the practices themselves.
Being a yoga teacher is about teaching in a way that creates the conditions to allow yoga to happen.  We want to engage in a conversation about the ways in which integration of practices creates the “magic” of this state.  The focus is about creating the conditions to allow the state of yoga to occur.

The “state” of yoga has so many benefits and can be used much more widely in our lives. To become more effective in widening access to yoga practices, teachers need to know how to share simpler integrated Body-Breath-Mind practices, able to talk about the benefits in a professional and authoritative way, able to present themselves authentically and with wisdom outside of typical yoga settings..

The course is respectful of and informed by yoga traditions, but it is not tradition-bound.  Therefore, the course is taught with an emphasis on principles and skills that are widely applicable.  This serves the purpose of being useful across traditions, and also moves the teaching away from a rules-based ‘right/wrong’ approach and into the realm of exploration and application.

Taking an 'advanced' (subtle, deep, and aware) approach to the study of yoga for qualified teachers with teaching experience.

Course Structure

Build over time…Enjoy the flexibility of complete the courses according to your schedule, deciding which elective components suit your needs best.  The 300 hours of the full course is made up of the four Core courses. the cohort-based Integration course, and the Electives that you choose.

Core Courses = 140 hours

  • The State of Yoga: A Living Tradition (20 hours) In many entry level yoga training courses, the questions of what yoga is, and the precise philosophical ideas which underpin it, are addressed through the piecemeal study of extracts from a small number of selected textual sources.  The state of yoga will also be explored in relation to its physical and mental health benefits, from the perspective of a contemporary scientific approach.  The concept of integration will also be examined in relation to an approach for learning and teaching others.

  • The State of Yoga: Through Movement and the Body (50 hours) This course module will investigate the state of yoga through movement and the scientific perspective.   This course module will have a strong somatic focus, to discern awareness through the lens of the body.

  • The State of Yoga: Through the Breath and Meditation (50 hours) This course is a deep dive into the inner practices and how they contribute to the state of yoga.  These primarily include pranayama and meditation, but also other practices such as mudra, bandhas, yoga nidra, and restorative.  We explore the practices as separate elements, but also the ways in which they integrate.

  • The State of Yoga: Through Personal and Professional Relationships (20 hours): Understand how practices that create the conditions for the state of yoga can be implemented for contemporary 'secular' use: this course aims to help yoga teachers work more effectively outside of a traditional yoga setting.

Integration  = 90 hours

  • Cohort Integration course (9x monthly sessions + self-study): This course module is designed to help you create a blueprint onto which they map your learning from the Core Courses onto your existing learning and experience.  Spread over 9 months, the intention is to allow time for you to bring new knowledge and skills into your individual developmental pathway.  As you move through other course modules, the integration cohort includes an opportunity to reflect on areas where you would benefit from further study/integration/experience. This course is where the main assessment takes place.

Electives = 70 hours

  • The course electives include 70 hours of individual choice of further study.  The electives are designed to offer knowledge, skills, and inspiration to support personal development and professional career development.  Click HERE for more detail about Electives.

By the end of the training, you will…

Deepen your own practice, and teach from this experience

Understand that developing the knowledge and skills referred to, and the ability effectively to communicate them, require embodiment within the teacher and that personal practice and exploration is required to explore and develop skills of awareness for your own self-regulation.

Teach from a deeper understanding of the state of yoga

You will be able to explain:

(i) how yogis have understood the state of yoga, and how that understanding has changed over time as part of a living tradition;

(ii) the correlations with current views on the physical and mental health benefits of yoga (particularly in relation to self-regulation and awareness).

Refine your teaching and to be able to use your skills beyond traditional yoga settings

i.) be able to articulate the framing of the integrated practice of yoga in the context of a modern concept of well-being;

ii) be competent in applying the principles of an integrated practice by selecting and teaching a range of practices (in both a yoga and non-yoga setting);

iii) be able to design practices adjusting for common conditions (with understanding of scope of practice as a yoga teacher).

Have had the opportunity to reflect and explore

Have reflected upon how to use these skills and qualities, and what resources are needed, to support your own personal development and professional career, and to be inspired to explore your potential within new environments or situations.

Meet the Faculty

We have gathered together a world-class faculty that form an outstanding team of international teachers who are experts in their field.  Why these teachers?  This is a collective of educators who, with their own individual talents and specialist skills, inspire us to explore the deep wisdom of our inner selves.  How? By sharing their understanding in a way that helps us to recognise the state of yoga and how that state inspires us to be in the world.
