Have you ever asked yourself why that song or piece of music moves you so much … or why you happily spend hundreds of pounds on tickets to your favourite Band or Singer when you could buy a new Sound System for the same price? That's because live music fills your body and soul in a way that recorded music doesn’t… it’s all about the Vibe!
Meet Anne Malone who's passion is to demystify the world of Music and Sound and prove to you that we all have the ability to play music, sing, and heal ourselves and others through it.
What is Sound Healing and what are its effects?
Sound Healing is all about vibration, resonance and intention … every sound is vibration and vibration touches every cell in our body, every sound that has loving intention is a Healing Sound … therefore we not only hear sound, we feel it physically, emotionally and soulfully.
So, vibrations influence our emotional bodies as well as our physical bodies, sound and emotions are connected, and our emotional wellbeing influences our physical wellbeing.
What are your views on live music vs recorded music?
Live music is comparable to having a coffee & catch up with a friend rather than a skype call!! When we meet up in person we experience our friend’s unfiltered rainbow of vibrations … whereas our skype call places a world of “digitalisation” between us.
Likewise with recorded music … we experience filtered vibrations.
When did your passion for music and sound begin and how has it evolved?
My passion for music began at an early age (as did my questioning of dogma), taking me on a magical journey into the heart sound, from the vibrant music scene of Dublin to exploring the mesmerising rhythms of Latin America, delving into Meditation to uncover the depth of devotion in my heart, learning to love the discipline of Yoga, widening my perspective by training as a Sound Therapist with Chris James, a Journey Therapist with Brandon Bays, Shamanic Ceremonial Facilitator with Hart Lodge and Flow Yoga with Shiva Rea. Running parallel to this magical journey has been my love of the recording studio, enabling me to create SoundScapes and bring my songs to life.
Throughout my life’s journey, I have been passionate about demystifying the world of music and empowering everyone I encounter with the knowledge and experience that music is accessible for everyone, and that Sound can heal … we can all play music and we can all sing, and heal ourselves and others combining our heartfelt intention with our voice and music.
We have heard a lot about Sound Baths recently – what exactly is one?
Sound bathing is a simple yet profound way to connect with the core of our being and tune our body at a cellular level through the gentleness of its resonance, using healing sounds of Hang, Sansula, Vocal Toning, Celtic Drum, Tibetan Singing Bowls and Rainstick ….
Relax and bathe in the exquisite healing sounds of these instruments and vocal tones, releasing stress and blockages as Anne places the Tibetan Bowl on your body, gently ‘retuning’ and balancing you with her voice …
Drift into the magical world of nature as you are showered with the sounds of the Rainstick, Shamanic drum and wind instruments … leaving you feeling renewed and tingling with vibrant energy.
The only side affect is happiness and harmony!!
Can you tell us a little bit more about the various instruments you use in your Sound Baths?
The art of playing or singing the bowls is one of the foundation stones of my healing instruments … what is a Singing Bowl …
A Singing Bowl is a metallic bowl made from several alloys, copper, tin, zinc, iron, lead, gold, silver and mercury.
The sound is produced by striking the surface with a mallet or by rubbing its rim with a special wooden mallet coated with leather. Singing Bowls give long sustained overtones, undertones and reverberate with delicate yet intense vibrations. These magical bowls come in different shapes, sizes, weight, design and quality. These factors determine the notes, scales and quality of each bowl. The longer the sustain on the sound of the bowl, the better its quality.
Singing Bowl Body Placement
Placing the singing bowl on various Chakras and singing the bowl with ease while balancing directly on the body, allows the depth of vibration to resonate throughout the body and release energetic stagnation.
The Voice …
Toning is the creation of extended vocal sounds on a single vowel in order to experience the sound and its effects in other parts of the body. The art of tuning the body on a cellular level using vocal tones, these vocal tones resonate with the body’s molecules, balancing and releasing blockages, clearing and balancing the Chakras. By vocally massaging body and mind from the inside out, toning can help you focus and relax; release negative emotions; reduce stress; and improve stamina and concentration.
Rainstick, Drum and Hang
Shamanic drumming connects our heart beat to the rhythm of the earth, immersing ourselves in natural coordination and rhythm, our drumming evolves.
The Rainstick when circled round the head creates a surround sound of ocean waves, gentle rain drops, rolling pebbles or wind blown leaves.
Hang is a convex steel drum played with the hands or mallets and tuned with multiple notes.
