Rooted in the Midline: The Spine Through a Koshic Lens

This workshop invites you to experience your spine not as a stack of bones, but as a living, curving, intelligent structure — one that carries the memory of our evolutionary past and the possibility of profound personal transformation in the present.

Leila Stuart

The spine is the body's central connecting structure — the axis around which our head, rib basket, and pelvis balance in gravity. Every system in the body orients around this midline: respiratory, circulatory, nervous, gastrointestinal, and endocrine. The health and resilience of the spine affects all of them.

This workshop invites you to experience your spine not as a stack of bones, but as a living, curving, intelligent structure — one that carries the memory of our evolutionary past and the possibility of profound personal transformation in the present.

Using the koshic model as our map, we'll move through the koshic layers — physical, energetic, mental, and spiritual — to discover what it feels like to truly center in the spine. Through experiential anatomy, somatic inquiry, breath, sound, and gentle movement, you'll begin to sense your spine as more than structure. You'll feel it as your central axis of support, courage, and self.

What Will I Learn?

  • Experience the spine as your body's central, organising axis
  • Explore the kosha model as a lens for spinal awareness and embodiment
  • Sense how spinal alignment touches breath, energy, and mind
  • Practice simple, mindful movements to awaken spinal presence
  • Begin to feel how "moving from the spine" changes your movement and your experience of self
  • Deepen interoceptive awareness to encourage self-regulation and resilience

Who is the Workshop For?

This workshop will appeal to yoga students, teachers, and therapists as well as personal trainers, physiotherapists, massage therapists and other health professionals who are interested in somatic explorations of the spine as a multidimensional structure that can influence body, breath, and mind.
