Restorative Yoga and the Spinning Mind

Learn why and how Restorative Yoga practices help us to dis-identify with the spinning mind and create the spaciousness for consciousness. This 2 hour workshop is part of the 'Being Yoga: through Breath and Meditation' course.

JUDITH LASSATER

Restorative practices and how they contribute to the state of yoga

The practices of yoga create the conditions for us to recognise our state of being.  The practices point us to this state, through moments of discerning our deep awareness. As we practice, the moments gradually become more familiar.  The familiarity with this state of presence affects our lives and the lives of those around us.

'The intention of yoga is the connection to our true self.  Spinning mind is the ego's view of reality, the ego's function is separation.  The practices of yoga are dis-identification with the spinning mind.  The more we practice, the weaker the spinning mind becomes.' - Judith Hanson Lasater

How might this workshop inform my teaching, personal practice, and my life?

  • Sensation as a doorway to consciousness: Asana brings us to the present through sensation (it is not intellectual) as sensation exists in the moment.  Being in the present moment creates the spaciousness for consciousness to reveal itself.

  • Practical ways of creating the conditions for the state of yoga:  Restorative Yoga offers an opportunity to slow down, to rest with the support of props, and to experience presence.  Savasana reveals the spinning mind, as there are no distractions - giving us the opportunity to practice noticing.

What to Expect
