Yin yoga can give us the space to slow down, a chance to stay with our experiences rather than always rushing. In a Yin yoga practice, all the postures are sitting – and all the postures are held for sustained periods of time (often five minutes). Within these long holds there is an encouragement of softness and an emphasis on relaxing muscular tissue. Through these attitudes there can be a gaining of harmony and peace: so there is a greater ease, a deeper sense of balance, feelings of calmness and acceptance.

This five day training will explore the possibilities and examine the potentials of this practice. We will embed ourselves in the practice: looking at the postures, discussing variations and learning teaching skills. The reasons and the results of practising this form will be explained. There will be investigation of the postures, examples of sequencing and plenty of time to evaluate our own experience. Norman will be joined by expert teachers to cover anatomy of Yin yoga, meditation, and neuroscience/breath in Yin yoga. Central themes covered by Norman will include awareness, intention, attending to individuality of anatomy: each of us having our own unique biology ,and our own unique biography. You will learn and experience sequences that can deepen inner quietening, that can open the hips, that can encourage reflection to name but a few.

Special guest teachers on the course:

Anatomy session with Emma Charlton
Emma Charlton – an experienced aromatherapist and body worker who began teaching soft tissue anatomy in 2004 and has co-taught on part of Norman Blair’s Yin Yoga Intensive’s team for the past 3 years – will host an anatomy session which is a chance to explore how your body functions in relation to your yoga practice. Together we’ll look at the anatomy of a selection of yin yoga poses in a format designed to make anatomy accessible and relevant to your yoga practice. The afternoon will also include a discussion about fascia; definitions, structure, function and its role in moving and supporting our human forms. The afternoon is a chance to share and develop your anatomy understanding and inspire you to continue learning about the body as you continue along your yoga journey.

Meditation session with Maitripushpa Bois
A self-proclaimed meditation geek, Maitripushpa has practicing meditation for over 30 years. Drawing mainly from the Buddhist tradition, her teaching is also influenced by her practice and study of meditation from the Taoist, Confucian, Catholic (Benedictine and Jesuit) traditions as well as by her 20+ year yoga practice and its meditative elements. In this session, Maitripushpa will discuss the role of meditation and how it can compliment a Yin Yoga practice.

Acupressure with Kate Henley
Kate has been an acupuncturist since 1998 and is especially interested in how the internal practice of quiet forms of yoga support re-aligning and balance in our bodies. Kate is also a qualified supervisor and teaches yoga and mindfulness to her patients. She is passionate about creating a space for others to experience the depth of this Eastern Medicine and for them to be able to bring it into their lives.

In our Yang world, Yin yoga is becoming increasingly popular. Come along and find out how this staying in poses can profoundly influence the quality of our well-being: as well as physical stretching, this form of practice impacts on our energetic body, our mental states and our emotions. Learn from experiencing this practice first hand how you can incorporate Yin yoga in your practicing and your teaching.

The training is open to teachers and teachers in training, as well those with an established understanding and practice of Yin yoga.
