Meditation Roots and Shoots (part of The Meditation Training)
Different historical traditions have given us different approaches to meditation...and meditation’s development continues up to the present day. In this module, learn, through lecture and practice, about the differences (and similarities) between meditation in different yoga traditions, Buddhism, and the modern mindfulness movement.

FAQs
Do I need to be a yoga teacher to join?
No. This module is open to anyone—from curious beginners to experienced teachers.
Will this help me teach meditation?
Yes. Whether you’re new to guiding meditation or already including it in your classes, this module provides a practical foundation and clarity.
Can I take this as a stand-alone?
Yes. Each module in The Meditation Series can be taken independently. If you complete all four, you’ll be eligible for Meditation Teacher Certification through Yogacampus.
What if I can’t attend live?
A full recording will be provided for you to watch at your convenience. That said, we recommend attending live if you can, to get the most out of the group interaction and discussion.
A course based on years of feedback
Over years of teaching, Graham and Isabell kept hearing the same things:
- “I feel unsure about meditation.”
- “I don’t know if I’m doing it right.”
- “I want to teach it, but I don’t feel qualified.”
Many experienced yoga teachers and students told us they felt disconnected from their practice—or overwhelmed by the noise of the modern meditation world. Apps, advice, and spiritual trends were adding pressure, not peace.
We created The Meditation Series to offer something different. A space to strip away the confusion. To start fresh. To reconnect with meditation in a way that feels grounded, inclusive, and personal.
The series is designed to meet you where you are—whether you’re a curious beginner, a seasoned practitioner, or a teacher ready to build confidence in how you guide others.
Because meditation doesn’t need to be mysterious, silent, or perfect.
It just needs to be real.
The Meditation Series
Probably the single most constant element of yoga practice through the ages has been meditation. As BKS Iyengar himself wrote, Yoga is Meditation, and Meditation is Yoga.
But meditation is also an essential part of Buddhist practice, and more recently has been widely and beneficially adopted in the modern world as a standalone practice in all sorts of different environments.
We are excited to launch The Meditation Series. Join senior teachers Isabell Britsch and Graham Burns for a series of four 6 hour modules exploring all aspects of meditation practice and teaching. The modules can be taken independently or booked as a series – and those taking all four also have the option to gain Yogacampus Meditation Teacher certification (see more below).
Meditation Teacher Certification
For those wishing to proceed to certification as a Yogacampus meditation teacher, you will need to have taken all four modules and, in addition, to complete the following to the satisfaction of the course tutors within 15 months of your first module:
- have a 30 minute private online conversation with one of the course tutors to discuss your assignments and any questions you may have about the course materials;
- maintain a diary of your own personal meditation practice for at least 20 days in a 30 day period, and submit a summary of your reflections and insights from maintaining and journalling a regular practice;
- submit audio recordings of you guiding two different meditations, each of about 20 minutes in length.
You will receive written feedback on your diary reflections and audio recordings from one of the course tutors.
As a minimum, 80% live attendance is required for certification. Any missed aspect is to be caught up via recordings (plus any other requirement the teachers might ask for e.g. a quiz).
Who is eligible?
The modules are open to anyone interested in meditation, teacher or not and yoga practitioner or not.
Module content
Each module will include a mixture of short lectures, group discussion, and a number of guided meditations.

Yogacampus Diversity and Accessibility Bursary
For the full series (all 4 modules + the teaching certification), we are offering one bursary (50% off the full course price) to a dedicated meditation student with a demonstrated financial need and active involvement in a community that could benefit from meditation. This bursary is provided by Yogacampus – The Life Centre Education, a not-for-profit educational body committed to sharing knowledge and making yoga accessible to all.
Bursary places will be awarded to a teacher or trainee who has the ability and commitment to take the course teachings into a disadvantaged community and play their part in the drive to increase accessibility to these profoundly healing practices. Priority will be given to those who themselves are from marginalised or vulnerable groups or are from a minority ethnic background.
To apply, please complete our online form before the closing date of 18 May 2025.
