Relax and Renew™: How to teach Restorative Yoga, Level 1

Learn the art and skill of teaching restorative yoga postures and deep, complete relaxation with one of the world's foremost authorities on restorative yoga.

Judith Laster Relax and Renew 2020

Course Description

We work very hard in our lives, and, while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. Restorative yoga postures help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely. During deep relaxation, all the organ systems of the body are benefited. A few of the measurable results of relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure and the improvement of immune function, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination and the reduction of muscle tension and general fatigue.

In this Level 1 workshop, you will learn the art and skill of teaching Restorative Yoga. All aspects of the subject will be covered, including the physiology of relaxation, the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of Restorative Yoga, special poses for menstruation, pregnancy and menopause, and how to sequence and teach a class in Restorative Yoga.

Thousands of yoga teachers from all over the world have been trained by Judith. Join us to see what drew them to learn about Restorative yoga and the magic is creates for their students.

What Will I Learn?

The intention of this course is to provide yoga teachers and serious yoga students with the knowledge to teach ten basic Restorative poses which includes, but is not limited to, learning the following:

  • how to set up the poses,
  • when and how to choose the poses and their sequence,
  • an introduction to the physiology of Restorative yoga,
  • special poses for menstruation, pregnancy and menopause,
  • the psychology of Restorative yoga and the spiritual aspects of the practice, and more.

Who is the Course for?

For yoga teachers or yoga therapists who wish to incorporate Restorative yoga into their teaching. Also open to serious yoga students who wish to learn about Restorative yoga.

The sessions will be recorded and replay access offered to all students for 2 years after the course ends. However, you must attend all live sessions in order to achieve certification.

Please note that you are required to read and have with you each day of the training, a copy of Judith’s book Relax and Renew: Restful Yoga for Stressful Times, and Restore and Rebalance: Yoga for Deep Relaxation, plus the Reading Packet that will be emailed to you with the booking confirmation email when you register.

Contact Hours and Attendance Requirement

The course includes 50 non-contact hours (because of the pre-recorded module and home practice required).

There will be 8 four-hour sessions that will provide 30 hours of instruction with Judith and Lizzie and you MUST attend all these sessions in order to be eligible for certification.

Time zones are bad…whilst we will record the sessions you will miss the partner work if you do not attend live, and these are a critical part of the training.

Hence the requirement that you must attend the sessions if you wish to apply for certification. The requirement to attend all live scheduled sessions does also precludes Australian students from participating.

As part of this course you will need the following props – please see the Reading Packet that will be emailed to you with the booking confirmation email for more details:

  • 1 bolster (ideally 2 if you have them available)
  • 2 bricks
  • 5 firm blankets
  • 1 strap
  • a yoga type chair suitable for propping your legs
  • an eye bag / eye cover
  • 1 hand towel
  • yoga mat

On completion of this intensive, as well as receiving a Yogacampus certificate of completion, you will also have the option to gain certification from Judith as a Relax and Renew™ Teacher. For this you will have to attend all sessions of the training (no exceptions!) and complete a project, to be submitted by end March 2022.

If completed successfully, you will be entitled to certification from Judith as a Relax and Renew™ teacher of Restorative yoga and to a lifetime listing on the teachers directory. There will be a fee of £115 payable for the marking of this project and lifetime listing on and Judith will explain all about the Certification during the training and how to pay the £115 (which will need to be paid before 25 October 2021).

Yogacampus Diversity and Accessibility Bursaries

We are offering four part-funded bursaries (50% off the full course price) to dedicated yoga students with a demonstrated financial need and active involvement in a community that could benefit from yoga.

The bursaries are provided by Yogacampus – The Life Centre Education, a not-for-profit educational body committed to sharing knowledge and making yoga accessible to all.

Bursary places will be awarded to teachers or trainees who have the ability and commitment to take the course teachings into a disadvantaged community and play their part in the drive to increase accessibility to these profoundly healing practices.

Priority will be given to those who themselves are from marginalised or vulnerable groups or are from a minority ethnic background.

If you wish to apply please complete the application form by 23 August.
